FAMILIES CARING FOR FAMILIES
The Arc of Craven County is a local family advocacy organization of and for people
living in Craven, Jones and Pamlico Counties with cognitive, intellectual, and developmental
disabilities and their families. The Arc was incorporated as a non-

Summer Camp began 5 years ago with a grant from the Harold H. Bate Foundation and
with supports from East Carolina Behavioral Health LME we were able to extend our
camp for 6 weeks with a limit of 40 campers. Summer camp enriches a child’s life
experiences in many positive ways through developing skills and abilities throughout
the summer months, while also providing a structured, supervised, consistent environment,
and help with the transition process from school to vacation back to school, which
is very important for children we support. It will also provide parents and caregivers
a much needed summer program while knowing their child is safe with professional
staff. The camp serves children from ages 5-
